Netflix signed deal with Amazon Web Services to run its backend infrastructure

May 8, 2010

“At Netflix, our members want the greatest convenience, selection and value. We’re excited about using AWS because it lets us focus on innovation that enables a great member experience, without requiring us to devote time and energy to building undifferentiated data centers,” said Kevin McEntee, Netflix Vice President of Engineering.

This is some huge news that others will not see as being so prophetic. Netflix is da bomb in streaming media. I have and use it and love their services. If they are moving the facilities from in-house to amazon, I can tell that Netflix will continue to deliver value to its customers at the same time as expanding its offerings. They already offer me unlimited streaming of on-demand movies for like $8 a month. I can only image what this kind of move will do for their bottom line, and how it will open up the creative juices of their infrastructure and development teams.
